Someone was just telling me about Ken Liu today — I’ll take it as a sign to check it out! Though Earthlings was quite grotesque I actually “liked” it (if one can use that word about this book) quite a lot. It stands out among Murata’s other books about repressed women in Japanese society.
You definitely should check out Ken Liu! I don't think the grotesqueness was my issue with Earthlings - it's more than it had a single grotesque bit that it kept using over and over until it started to bounce off me. But yeah maybe I'm not the audience
